How Americans Can Overcome Their Insanity

Capitalism Destroys the Mind They're Driving People Insane Ignorance   Creating Insanity
America's Suicidal Ignorance Capitalists Are Murdering Us   The Cognoscenti Insane Rulers

This essay is addressed to the inner essence (Higher Self) of you the reader with which you are able to understand what this essay is saying. No matter what happens to you, no matter how exalted or depraved you become, this Higher Self remains your inner essence and possesses powers of comprehension beyond your surface self.

Your Higher Self will be able to assimilate and apply the knowledge this essay provides.

All Americans have become insane. 1  Over one hundred years ago, a demonic cabal turned America into an insane plutocratic dictatorship and turned Americans into insane self-destructive zombies. None of us escapes this fate. I, like all other Americans, was made insane by the insane persons who raised and educated me. In this essay I am sharing the processes I used, and continue to use, to escape from insanity. These same processes will work for you; you can use them to discover the aspects of your insanity and overcome them by taking specific actions, The only chance we have for saving ourselves from insanity and self-destruction is to face these facts and take the necessary action to escape madness and save our lives.

We become insane by allowing ordinary people and insane rulers to place fake reality, false belief systems, between us and true reality, so that we no longer know the truth or the real.

Because the reality of America is that it is a murderous fascistic-militarist-imperialist-police state, if we remain out of touch with reality then we act without knowing the dangers we face or how to protect ourselves from this lethal state.

"Insanity is intelligence acting quite normally and smoothly in a mixture of several environments, harmonized completely with none. The mind is unimpaired in the sense that its mechanism of function is unimpaired. It is acting often on realities, but it is interpreting the realities of one sphere in symbols of another, or vice versa, or even more confusing is the intermingling of the two in both. If that could be fully understood and worked out from this point of view, the benefit to all of humanity at large, here and there, would be greater than any other one thing I can think of at the moment."
Betty White, Gaelic Manuscripts, 1928

Americans Have Become So Insane That They've Lost their Instinct For Survival

"How is it possible that the strongest of all instincts, that for survival, seems to have ceased to motivate us? One of the most obvious explanations is that the leaders undertake many actions that make it possible for them to pretend they are doing something effective to avoid a catastrophe: endless conferences, resolutions, disarmament talks, all give the impression that the problems are recognized and something is being done to resolve them. Yet nothing of real importance happens; but both the leaders and the led anesthetize their consciences and their wish for survival by giving the appearance of knowing the road and marching in the right direction.

"While in our private life nobody except a mad person would remain passive in view of a threat to our total existence, those who are in charge of public affairs do practically nothing, and those who have entrusted their fate to them let them continue to do nothing."

Erich Fromm, To Have or To Be?

We must recognize and acknowledge when we commit acts of self-destruction:
  • Participating in wars that we know are only for the purpose of making huge profits for the capitalist plutocrats and "using up" worthless "cannon-fodder" soldiers

  • Failing to inform ourselves as to what our present reality is

  • Voting for persons we "know" are dedicated to destroying us

In 2004, Christopher Lohse, a social work master's student at Southern Connecticut State University, proved what many progressives had suspected for years: a direct link between mental illness and support for President Bush. Lohse surveyed 69 psychiatric outpatients in three Connecticut locations during the 2004 presidential election. Lohse's study, backed by SCSU Psychology professor Jaak Rakfeldt and statistician Misty Ginacola, found a correlation between the severity of a person's psychosis and their preferences for president: The more psychotic the voter, the more likely they were to vote for Bush. "Our study shows that psychotic patients prefer an authoritative leader," Lohse explained. "If your world is very mixed up, there's something very comforting about someone telling you, 'This is how it's going to be.'"

What Is Our Present Condition?

It may seem that Americans couldn't be suffering from suicidal madness, because nobody in America is talking about it and to most Americans things in general seem completely normal and sane. The difficulty is that most Americans are victims of a phenomenon which the Perennial Tradition calls "The Poisoned Water."

     The Poisoned Water

A Parable For Our Time

Once upon a time a band of sages--having gained an understanding of what is true reality in the two realms--warned the people of the land that their evil rulers were poisoning all the wells, streams, lakes, and underground reservoirs, and that soon the poisoned water would take effect so that all those who drank it would be driven to utter madness. Members of this small group of sages were called Perennialists.

The people of the land dismissed the Perennialists' warnings as the rantings of madmen, and not only did nothing to stop the poisoning of their water supplies, but helped the evil rulers to poison their water even more rapidly and effectively.

The Perennialist sages collected uncontaminated water and went to a secure place where they stored it. They also discovered hidden springs and set up a system to collect fresh rainwater from the heavens as well. They waited for the common, stored water to change the character of the people.

Observing their nation's people going progressively, though invisibly, insane from the poisoned water, the Perennialist sages found that people were thinking, acting, and talking in an entirely different manneer than before. Yet the people had no awareness of how they were changing, no memory of what had happened, no recollection of having been warned.

All the people had become insane, so their insanity appeared to them to be normal, therefore sane.

When the Perennialist sages tried to talk to the people, they realized that the people thought that the Perennialists were mad; the people showed hostility or indifference, not understanding.

A few beginning students of the Perennialists (aspirants) at first drank none of the new water, but finally made the decision to drink the poisonous water because they couldn't bear the loneliness of living, behaving and thinking in a different way from everyone else. This group of students drank the poisoned water and became like the rest of the people. They forgot all about the Perennialist store of special water and the Perennialists themselves. The people of the land looked upon this group of students as madmen who had miraculously been restored to sanity.

The small band of Perennialist sages continues to live invisibly within the land, appearing to the madness-stricken people as only somewhat different from themselves. The Perennialists make available to selected initiates (tested students) the experience and knowledge of pure water, of how to receive fresh water supplies, and how this water brings about a total transformation in their personality, behavior, and being.

The fact that life in America seems so "normal" or "sane" is not because these descriptors are correct, but because, as Erich Fromm indicates, consensus in an insane society is insane. And as Aldous Huxley asserts, the appearance of normalcy in an insane society is sheer delusion.

"What is so deceptive about the state of mind of the members of a society is the 'consensual validation' of their concepts. It is naively assumed that the fact that the majority of people share certain ideas or feelings proves the validity of these ideas and feelings. Nothing is further from the truth. Consensual validation as such has no bearing whatsoever on reason or mental health. Just as there is a 'folie a deux' there is a 'folie a millions.' The fact that millions of people share the same vices does not make these vices virtues, the fact that they share so many errors does not make the errors to be truths, and the fact that millions of people share the same forms of mental pathology does not make these people sane."

Erich Fromm, The Sane Society

"The real hopeless victims of mental illness are to be found among those who appear to be most normal. Many of them are normal because they are so well adjusted to our mode of existence, because their human voice has been silenced so early in their lives that they do not even struggle or suffer or develop symptoms as the neurotic does. They are normal not in what may be called the absolute sense of the word; they are normal only in relation to a profoundly abnormal society. Their perfect adjustment to that abnormal society is a measure of their mental sickness. These millions of abnormally normal people, living without fuss in a society to which, if they were fully human beings, they ought not to be adjusted."

Aldous Huxley, Brave New World Revisited

As we have arrived at the year 2017 and seek to understand the import of the reecent presidential election--an uncivilized, mafia-style brute for a President--we must face the insanity of the nation's rulers and the insanity of its people squarely in the face.

America 2017: the Insane Society

"In the US, the working class will confront a government unlike any other in American history, which will continue and intensify a decades-long social counterrevolution overseen by the Democrats and Republicans. The incoming Trump administration is manned by billionaires, generals and arch reactionaries. It is a government of, by and for the oligarchy, committed to destroying every remaining gain won by workers over the past century."

Jerry White, "The class struggle in the US in 2017," 4 January 2017,

"The U.S. has 59 million people medically uninsured; 132 million without dental insurance; 60 million without paid sick leave; 40 million on food stamps. Everybody in the European Union has cradle-to-grave access to universal medical and a dental plan by law. The law also requires paid sick leave; paid annual leave; paid maternity leave. When you realize all of that, it becomes easy to understand why many Europeans think America has gone insane."

"America in Decline: Why Germans Think We're Insane," AlterNet, December 26, 2016

Most often the rule of a society is taken over by the worst types of people, those with no ability to order their own lives or the functions of a society--those most insane. One of the major catastrophes of our modern era is that insane citizens have lost the understanding that there are certain persons who, through training and character, possess the necessary capability to lead a society beneficially and effectively, while others only pretend to be able to do so, using their positions of power to feather their own nest and oppress and murder the people. Our present plight in 2017 is best understood through discerning the meaning of this allegory used by Plato in The Commonwealth, Book IV.

Plato's Allegory of the Mutineering Seamen

On a ship at sea, a group of mutinous sailors, with the help of a scheming villain, take control of the vessel. The villain is put in charge of the ship and acclaimed by the ignorant sailors as a "great leader." Neither the villain nor the mutinous sailors possess the highly specialized skills of seamanship, assuming that the capabilities of a sea captain are negligible or non-existent. As can be imagined, the ship runs onto the shoals and is destroyed.

"This noxious class of tyrants and their followers grow numerous and become conscious of their strength, assisted by the infatuation of the people. They choose from among themselves the one who has most of the tyrant in his own soul, and him they make their Chief Tyrant. . ."

Plato, The Commonwealth, IX

Overcoming Insanity By Understanding Present Reality

As I mentioned earlier in this essay, when I became aware that I had been raised and educated by insane people to be an insane person myself, I realized I had to discover what to do to escape this dread situation. I realized that my insanity meant that I was out of touch with true reality, having been conditioned to accept a false belief system which allowed me to see only a false reality. I began to study assiduously to gain an understanding of all the many facets of true reality and overcome my insanity. (I list only a few of the many studies I undertook in this endeavor.)
Overcoming Insanity By Understanding and Implementing Platonic Forms

Our approach in the study and implementation of Platonic Forms operates on the principle that humans overcome demonic terrestrial forces--such as fascistic capitalism--by understanding and realizing the primordial Forms.

"The healing process will then begin by a stripping of illusion, and the subsequent relating together of the remaining bits of reality, thus reestablishing the lost harmony with truth. For when this in either case is accomplished, the intelligence, which, be it remembered, is in function only impaired, will by its very nature, once its eyes are unbandaged. proceed to its proper function in the environment in which it actually is by its own specific gravity, so to speak.

"The tearing down of the false structure requires a certain boldness and courage to face the reality of the actual; to acknowledge that evolution is harmonious. . . "

Betty White, Gaelic Manuscripts, 1928

What Must Be Done

As I indicated at the beginning of this essay, the only remedy possible for Americans who have allowed the demonic cabal to drive them insane is for them to acknowledge this fact and immediately begin to take the necessary action this situation demands. Citizens who work to understand the mass-insanity imposed on them by their psychotic zombie rulers must understand what specific action is necessary. Persons awakening to their lack of contact with true reality must avoid useless strategies, maintain a positive and active state of mind, and join in implementing the single remedy to our dire plight: the establishment of cooperative commonwealth communities.

Cooperative Commonwealth Communities

  1. Screening and training of applicants for community membership, not indiscriminate acceptance of all applicants

  2. Community ownership of the means of production by members

  3. Consensus control: policies and actions decided by dialectical consensus of all community members

  4. Production solely for use, not profit: community-regulated production of goods and services relative to need, without the intervention of a buying and selling market mechanism

  5. Replacement of capitalism by a commonwealth polity one community at a time, not nationally as a whole

Creating Cooperative Commonwealth Communities

In this epoch the only realistic strategy for workers is to create cooperative commonwealth communities that will ultimately replace capitalism entirely; no amount of tinkering with a totally failed capitalism is of any use. Workers no longer have any alternative between consenting to be atomized into millions of crushed, tamed individuals, or generalizing their struggles as widely as possible towards replacing the capitalist cabal itself with a genuine commonwealth polity. Workers must refuse to allow their struggles to be restricted to a purely economic, local, or sectional terrain and instead organize themselves in the embryonic forms of its future organs of power: cooperative commonwealth communities.

The 2007 economic collapse revealed in the starkest terms the lethality of capitalist financial parasitism and criminality. Such revelations are beginning to penetrate the consciousness of American workers and with the proper genuinely progressive leadership can lead to profound changes in their political-economic awareness.

We can anticipate that the American capitalist cabal will continue its unending series of wars of conquest and plunder. The cabal will continue its fictitious "war on terror," its insane drive to subjugate the peoples and resources of the world while coercing American workers into submission through a combination of fear-mongering and repression.

While the capitalist cabal deludes itself into thinking that it has unlimited power, its rapid internal rot, as evidenced by the rise to its summit of the most predatory and criminal elements (think Donald Trump), demonstrates its actual escalating degeneration and impotence.

"A new society is possible only if, in the process of developing it, a new human being also develops, or in more modest terms, if a fundamental change occurs in contemporary Man's character structure. . . The need for profound human change emerges not only as an ethical or religious demand, not only as a psychological demand arising from the pathogenic nature of our present social character, but also as a condition for the sheer survival of the human race. Right living is no longer only the fulfillment of an ethical or religious demand. For the first time in history the physical survival of the human race depends on a radical change of the human heart. However, a change of the human heart is possible only to the extent that drastic economic and social changes occur that give the human heart the chance for change and the courage and vision to achieve it."

Erich Fromm, To Have Or To Be?

1 I am using the word "insane" in the sense of a deranged state of mind which causes a person to be out of touch with true reality, believing in a false reality, while still fuctioning in a diminished capacity.
I am not using the term in the legal sense: Such unsoundness of mind or lack of understanding as prevents one from having the mental capacity required by law to enter into a particular relationship, status, or transaction.
